GHRH analogue
Also written growth hormone releasing hormone, GHRH
A synthetic version of the hormone that tells the pituitary to release growth hormone. One of the two receptor routes into a growth hormone pulse.
The body raises growth hormone through two levers: growth-hormone-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus, and ghrelin acting on a separate receptor. GHRH analogues copy the first.
This is why pairing a GHRH analogue with a ghrelin-receptor agonist is the one combination in this category with a real mechanistic argument. The two act on different receptors, so the case is that they add instead of overlapping.
Sermorelin, CJC-1295 and tesamorelin are GHRH analogues, and they differ enormously in evidence: tesamorelin completed a phase 3 programme and holds an approval, the other two have neither.
