Why we price per milligram, and what that hides
A 10 mg vial at $35 and a 5 mg vial at $20 are not comparable until you divide. Normalising is the only way to compare, and it quietly assumes things worth naming.
Vendors price by vial, and vials come in sizes chosen partly to make comparison hard. A 10 mg vial at $35 is $3.50 per milligram; a 5 mg vial at $20 is $4.00. The second looks cheaper and is not, and that gap is where most of the confusion in this market lives.
So every price in our index is normalised to a figure per milligram, and the vial size and listed price sit beside it so you can check the division. Nothing is ranked on the listed price, because a ranking of listed prices is a ranking of vial sizes.
Three things that normalising assumes, all worth naming. It assumes the label is accurate. We have not tested anybody's vial and cannot. It assumes milligrams are the right unit of comparison, which holds within a compound and not across them: a milligram of BPC-157 and a milligram of semaglutide are not comparable quantities of anything. And it ignores shipping, which can exceed the price difference between two vendors on a single vial.
We also only rank prices in one currency. A handful of the vendors we read list in Canadian dollars, and ranking those against US listings by the number would produce a table that looks like a comparison and is not. Those listings appear on the vendor's own page, where nothing is being ranked, and the index says it is US dollars only.
Every price carries the date we saw it. Prices in this market move on no schedule, a figure from six weeks ago is a historical fact, not a quote, and a page that shows prices without dates is inviting a reader to treat one as the other.
