Batch number
Also written lot number, lot
An identifier for one production run. It is what makes a certificate of analysis mean anything about the vial in your hand.
A certificate reports on a sample from a specific batch. Without a batch number on both the certificate and the vial, there is no way to know whether the test describes what you have. That reduces the certificate to a graphic.
This is why our vendor directory records whether a seller publishes batch numbers. It is a checkable fact about how they operate, unlike a claim about what is in their product.
It also matters if something goes wrong. A dose history that records which batch it came from can answer a question that a history recording only the compound cannot.
