Travelling with peptides

Temperature, paperwork, and the fact that legal status changes when you cross a line on a map. Two of those have practical answers.

Two problems travel together here and they are worth keeping apart. Keeping material usable is a cold chain and packing question, and it has straightforward answers. The legal position of these compounds differs by country, and that one has no workaround at all.

So this guide covers the first properly, and is straight with you about the second instead of offering advice it has no business giving.

The legal part, first

Several compounds you can legally hold in one country are controlled in another. Our compound pages carry a dated regulatory line naming the jurisdiction it applies to. That line stays where it is when you get on a plane.

We are not going to tell you how to move material across a border. If the status where you are going is unclear, that question belongs to somebody qualified to answer it there. The honest default is to leave it at home.

Keeping it usable

  1. Travel with powder where you can

    Freeze-dried powder puts up with temperature far better than solution does. If a trip falls across the end of a vial, finish that one before you go and mix the next on arrival.

  2. Use an insulated pouch, not a freezer block against the vial

    You want steady and cool. A frozen pack pressed against a vial can take the solution below zero, and freezing a reconstituted peptide is usually worse for it than a few hours warm.

  3. Keep it in the cabin

    The hold is not temperature-controlled in any useful sense, and your bag is not guaranteed to arrive when you do.

  4. Take more syringes than you need

    The cheapest thing you are carrying and the one you cannot improvise. Leave them in their packaging.

  5. Carry documentation for anything prescribed

    For a prescribed medicine, the prescription and the original labelled box are what identify it as yours.

On arrival

  • Refrigerate as soon as you can

    Time spent warm adds up. Getting a vial cold again stops the clock. It does not wind it back.

  • A vial that got warm cannot be assessed by looking

    Looking at it catches gross problems and nothing else. Clear solution tells you nothing about potency.

  • Assuming a hotel minibar is a fridge

    Plenty run far warmer than a kitchen fridge, and some only cool when there is something in them to sell.
